The Should, The Bad and the Russo
A play on The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, this is The Should, The Bad and the Russo. A breakdown of what WWE should do, what they will do and what Vince Russo would do with a certain character for Wrestlemania 33.
The Should. The Undertaker should be putting over a young talent in what will be one of his last Wrestlemanias, if not his last. WWE has a history of booking The Undertaker against the biggest baddest monster they can summon. Brock, Big Show, Kane, Khali, Giant Gonzalez, just to name a few. While Braun Strowman is the closest available option at the moment, I would venture to say that it would make more sense to put over a younger, smaller wrestler (if for nothing else other than for the sake of match quality). We run into a slight complication when you take into account that such an underdog-type victory should be cast upon a babyface. The Undertaker cannot be a heel, at Wrestlemania. It simply cannot be done at this point in his mythology. So, the best option would be a young heel. Kevin Owens comes to mind since he could use the heat, badly. A “cool heel” like Owens could garner some real heat by defeating the Undertaker, and it would elevate him into the “God-level” tier with guys like Cena, Taker and Brock. Another excellent option would be for AJ Styles to battle The Undertaker at Wrestlemania. I still believe this is the best possible option from an in-ring perspective. AJ can do all of the work and Taker just needs to do his spots. It could be a 5-Star Classic, or as close to one as we can get from the Deadman in 2017. I believe AJ is set for a major babyface run in the near future, but if they want to keep him heel. I’d say “got for it!” The Phenom vs The Phenomenal One sells itself. Other options would include: a battle between the 2 greatest streaks in the sport’s history: Undertaker vs Goldberg; a freshly-heel Ziggler challenging the Deadman (and failing miserably as her always does); and the ever-optimistic passing of the torch to Bray Wyatt. Being realistic, if I had my druthers: Undertaker vs AJ Styles at Wrestlemania 33.
The Bad. The Undertaker is most realistically facing Cena, Braun Strowman, Roman Reigns or AJ Styles, in my humble opinion. I’ve done hours of analysis on every Superstars’ potential opponent for the granddaddy of them all, and it’s pretty clear that it comes down to these 4, unless something changes substantially (not to sound too much like a dirtsheeet). Cena is most likely from a box-office draw perspective, but for the sake of the future of the company, both could be used better to help the next generation of stars along in the path to becoming true “Superstars”. Both men should be facing younger guys to put them over, if not literally then by virtue of the moment itself. A John Cena/Samoa Joe match certainly has its appeal at this point. Cena and Styles could very well carry their feud to Wrestlemania, as I believe they should, if done correctly, which remains to be seen. So, I’m torn. In my mind, The former-American Bad Ass will either be losing to John Cena, or beating Braun Strowman. I don’t see either match going the other way, when they should. Cena doesn’t need the win over Taker, and Taker doesn’t need the win over Strowman. I’d like Strowman to go over Taker, personally. That would be the best possible way to push Strowman further into the stratosphere. I’ll actually give WWE the benefit of the doubt on this one, and say the (not-so) bad in this case, is Undertaker vs Strowman. Again, I hope Strowman goes over, because it would make the most sense, but sadly don’t see that happening.
The Russo. BRO, THE DEADMAN, AT WRESTLE-FREAKIN-MANIA, BRO. WE COULD BOOK HIM AGAINST GENE-FREAKIN-OKERLUND BRO AND WE’RE GUNNA BE ON THE CUVVAH OF ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY BRO. WE’RE GUNNA BE ALL OVAH SPORTSCENTUH BRO. BUT REALLY, WE’RE PUT HIM BACK ON THE MOTORCYCLE IN THE AMERICAN BAD ASS GIMMICK, YA FOLLOW ME, BRO? AND THEN, THE FASHION POLICE ARE GUNNA COME OUT AND GIVE HIM FASHION TICKETS BRO. HE’S GUNNA CHOKESLAM THEM AND EVERYONE’S GUNNA THINK THAT ANGLES OVAH. WRONG!!! SWERVE, BRO! NEXT WEEK, BREEZANGO COME OUT AND START RAGGIN’ ON MICHELLE MCCOOL’S FASHION SENSE AND EXPOSE THAT SHE’S MARRIED TO TAKE-UH. NOW WE’RE BREAKING THE 4TH WALL, BRO! THIS IS CRASH TV, YA KNOW BRO? SO THEN WE GET ALL THIS HEAT ON BREEZANGO, AND ITS A HANDICAP MATCH AT MANIA, THE FREAKIN’ UNDUHTAKE-UH AGAINST THE FASHION POLICE IN A MICHELLE MCCOOL ON A POLE MATCH. IT’S NOT REALLY A POLE, IT’S MORE OF A FORKLIFT, BUT YOU NO ONE NEEDS TO KNOW THAT UNTIL THE MATCH, CUZ WHO CARES, BRO! TL;DR: BRO, TAKE-UH VERSUS BREEZANGO, BRO!
